ANT THE PUBLIC ADJUSTER

A large stack of manila folders and documents on a office desk, with a pen resting nearby and a computer monitor in the background.
A black and white abstract line drawing of a human head in profile with Greek letter psi in the center.

My family suffered a series of losses in the same summer. My mother was recently divorce and suddenly faced with raising myself and my two siblings on her own. So she did what a sensible schoolteacher would do. Downsize, reorganize finances and start fresh. We moved back in with my maternal grandmother.

As my grandmother was making dinner. That faithful green 1970s style stove she had owned catches fire. A grease fire at that, we weren’t lacking on fire prevention so we all moved into our roles; doing what any family would expect. Put the fire out safely. Prevent the spread. Use the extinguisher. We were blessed to salvage our home and our dinner. Fast forward to the insurance claim processing.

We did not know about public adjusting then like we do today. My grandmother could have had her kitchen remodeled instead her wall was repaired and the stove replaced. We were grateful that the insurance stepped in and the family home hadn’t been lossed. What we didn’t know was that we lost an opportunity for an adjuster to step in and indemnify the kitchen as a system. The wall repair was redone it looked great but it was patchwork to the kitchen unit/system. A public adjuster would have known the claims team omitted smoke remediation to name an included coverage that her policy absolutely did support.

As I now know, EVERY insurance policy is meant to make the policy owner whole. We, like many families did not know that the insurance company was supposed to do way more. We were grateful the wall was repaired, grateful the electrical outlet replaced (preventing a future electrical fire), and amazed when we got the call from Sears to replace the range. Had the public adjuster been on the case, he or she, would have known we were disadvantaged and underserved.

In 2021 I rebounded and this webpage is the manifesto to my calling. When I am on your property. I come to educate the policyholder(s)on their policy type, assess the changes affecting your current lifestyle, identify any gaps and fortifying your property for things we hope never happen. If we identify a loss has occurred I will advocate your claim to your insurance carrier and begin due diligence to ensure your case has been presented to make you whole in every possible way.
